SEGMENTS

Inuit Settlement Opens Door To Artic Resources / Rick Grant

Rick Grant of the CBC reports on the agreement to form a new, self-governing territory in the Canadian North, where the population is largely Inuit. It’s the largest Native land claims settlement ever in North America, and it will open up the area's vast mineral and petroleum deposits to development. (04:35)

Land Deal a Bad Deal?

Steve talks about the Inuit settlement with Jason Clay of the organization Cultural Survival. Clay says the agreement fits into an international pattern in which Native peoples have accepted agreements giving them a little of what was once theirs, in fear of otherwise ending up with nothing. (04:42)

Federal Flood Insurance under Attack / David Wright

David Wright of member station WBUR in Boston reports on efforts to change the Federal flood insurance program. Some in Congress say the program subsidizes development in volatile coastal areas at great risk to the environment and the national treasury. (08:10)

Regulating Property = Theft

Steve talks with R.S. Radford, of the Pacific Legal Foundation, about efforts to curb development in some coastal areas. Radford says that without due compensation, such laws are tantamount to theft. (04:02)
