Soon, nearly every oil firefighter in the world will be in Kuwait. Maeve McGoren reports from Washington on a meeting of these blaze-battlers to discuss the problems faced in Kuwait. (02:15)

Desert Ecology

The popular conception of the Arabian desert is that it is a bleak and barren place, nearly devoid of life. Steve talks with geographer Joni Seager, who says the desert is a vibrant and fragile ecosystem. (03:30)

Saudi Shoreline / Susan Murray

Saudi Arabia, a country whose wealth and strategic importance was created by oil, now finds itself threatened by oil. A massive spill, ten to fifteen times the size of the Exxon Valdez spill, was released into the Persian Gulf during the war. The CBC's Susan Murray reports. (04:15)

Iraq

A UN team recently visited Iraq and found its people threatened with disease and hunger. Steve talks with Paul Altesman, a UNICEF official who was on the trip and helped write the UN report. (03:45)

Steve talks with Bill Arkin of Greenpeace and Jeff Schaeffer of the Center for Strategic Information about what weight military planners should give to environmental concerns. (05:45)
